This week we had our second session of life drawing. It was 6 hours this time. This was the only picture I took. We experimented with Indian Ink. I really enjoyed it and decided to take it forward to my final piece. I liked having the ability to make the lines really thin or really bold and thick.

Abandoned Blog
I, as well as others, have abandoned our blogs accidentally. I'm really focused on the sketchbooks at the moment and I find that I keep forgetting about the blog. It's annoying because I was really getting into it. Just a little update on my sketchbooks;
Fine Art
Still working on this mostly at home. I've decided to use mix media (photos and paint). I feel much better about it than I did last year. I'm not sure what my final piece will be yet though.
Extended Specialist Techniques
The ideas never stop. I am really far forward with this unit. Like last year, it is my favourite unit. I have a lot of ideas for a final piece but I'm finalising it this week hopefully.
Narrative Image Making
I've put this unit behind a bit this month because I realised we have until January for it. I'll probably pick it up again this week though. I've been stuck a bit due to printing credit shortages so that has also not helped.
Location Photography
Again, printing credit problems. I feel ok about this unit though, but I feel that I need some class time to focus on it more (DFO is hard to break away from sometimes). I have a sort of idea of what I want my final piece to be, but it involves photoshop so I'm not sure how well it will turn out. I've been told to speak to Kirsty's boyfriend though as he can give me a quick lesson on it if need be.
Drawing from Observation
Currently really enjoying this unit. I love the matchboxes. Life drawing starts this week- really excited for it. I've never done it before but I'm looking forward to it because I know it will be a challenge. Also, it will help me if I go on to do a fine art course or whatever next year.
Surface Pattern
This unit is lacking at the moment. I just keep getting stuck. I understand what I have to do but it's just difficult for me to get past one point at the moment. Also, printing credit again is an issue for this.
I'm stressing out about a few things at the moment- UCAS, printing stuff, the units, this blog, stuff within the class, and personal problems. It's not to the point of last year, and it wont get to that point, but I just feel like I'm the only one kind of behind on the units.

More facepaint!
Over the weekend I decided to do more face paint. I am planning on writing about a visit to the Uni in my next post, so keep an eye out.
There will be more analysis in my sketchbook on these face paints, but I thought I'd still put them up here.
The first was a skeleton. Keeping with the idea of what is underneath the mask we put on.

My own "What I Be" project
Please refer to an earlier post about the "What I Be Project". I took photos of myself in the same sort of way. I pinned up a sheet to the ceiling to create a plain background. I should have ironed it first though. I sat in front of a window I knew got a lot of light. For the writing I used a pencil eyeliner. In the original they use markers that are kind to the skin.

Face paint experiment
When I came to college I decided that I either wanted to do photography or special effects after I leave. I've not done much with face paint over the last year, so last night I decided to recreate one of my favourites that I did way back for my 6th year Art project. Exposed muscle/ bone.
These were taken with my phone (bad quality). The worst part is, the face paint looked better in real life and I feel like i just couldn't capture it on camera.

Tried to get a really dark background- failed.
Thought I'd see if black and white made a huge difference, and to see if it would still look like exposed muscle/ bone.
I was able to get a really dark background on this one. I'd like this one more if I was perhaps posed differently.
By far my favourite one. The background is dark, the red shows up better, and you can see the detail on the collar bone (and bone in general).
Photography Experiment- Paint in water
![]() |
This was painty water from my brushes on Thursday after observational drawing. I thought the bubbles were interesting. This led me to wanting to do ink in water.

Made it more bubbly by swooshing my paintbrush around the jar.

Paint on my hand. I thought I'd include these as I liked the light bouncing off of the paint.

Came out looking a bit like a galaxy.
I thought I'd maybe be able to use some of these (or selected areas of these) as backgrounds/ overlays in my photography unit.
